The Lady of Wax

Picture the University of Puerto Rico in the 1960’s were afros, hot pants, mini skirts, psychedelic and ethnic fashion were cool. In January of 1962, Lila a young lady whose interest was art, music and science, was in the psychiatrist trying to figure out what she could do with her life. She was born in a hostile environment. Her biological father was an alcoholic who abused of Lila and her mother. Whn she was 3 years old, her mother ran away with her to another country, leaving the alcoholic behind. A year after, she remarried to a nice man who took care of her and Lila. Short after this, Lila became a little violent. Her mom and dad took her to a psychologist. He gave her therapy for a few months, short after that, her violent tendencies disappeared. It was 1962 when Lila attempted to kill her neighbor’s cat after she got a bad grade in her test. She only had time to cut the leg off, Henry the neighbor got home early that day. This drove her back to the psychologist obligated by her parents. A 15 year old kid discovered she could be developing psychopathic habits. Two months after that, she visited the psychiatrist by herself. Her parents didn’t know, they were satisfied with her visits to the psychologist. The psychiatrist told her this could be transitory, she was in her teen years and he could not tell if it was a stage or a mental condition. She was stressed trying to figure out what she could do with her life not knowing this detail. He told her: “if it comes back in a few years, it will be diagnosed as psychopath behavior”. In 1964 she applied for the school of medicine of the University of Puerto Rico. She was accepted as early admission. In 1965 she was a freshman in Rio Piedras. On her first year in college she met Steven. He was a handsome athlete, captain of the volleyball team. A talented groovy man, who had a passion for expressing art. Steven was acting a play when Lila accidentally bumped into him. Steven liked what his eyes met in the dark, where a slight light crossed the room trough a crack in the window.

Lila: (walking into the room thinks to herself). This is a groovy room, a perfect place for an art feast. (While dancing around, bumps into Steven). For the love of Jimmy Hendrix watch your step. (She laughs). Sorry I was kidding.

Steven: Peace & love my friend. I was expanding my mind and conscience.

Lila: (Saw the guitar in his hands besides the LSD). Play a song my friend and share the LSD so my conscience expands to the sound of the guitar.

Steven: I’ll play the guitar if you sing to the melody of Elizabeth (Elizabeth was his guitar).

While Lila sings Steven goes in a trance. It was the LSD, but he thought he could hear an angel singing. They laugh through the conversation, find out each other interests, and decide to go out on a date. They date for over a year, Lila & Steven are now boyfriend/girlfriend. Its 1968, they have been together for over a year, Lila is planning to ask Steven to go to Woodstock. The greatest art and music feast ever invented. A weekend of peace, love, free sex and drugs. It was in Bethel New York, in a big farm in Sullivan County. Lila was feeling a bit moody that week, she didn’t even pay attention to that, she was going to wood stock! Lila hides the marihuana in a waxing kit, to disguise it in the airport. She travels to New York with Steven on Thursday to live an out of this world experience. They are in Woodstock “the concert” practicing free love and expanding their minds through a little thing called marihuana. Lila is smoking when she realizes Steven is gone. She looks for him around, when he realizes he is having sex with other girls there. She didn’t pay much attention to that, her brain was way out, with the drugs and everything. When Steven comes back, they go for a walk together; soon they are in a solitary spot in the farm. Lila doesn’t remember what happened after this, its all confusing for her. The News Paper reads like this:

“He had no body hair, he was waxed to death. He’s legs were red as if they were covered in blood, but it was not blood it was his skin crawling down from his bones, arteries and organs. His nose was split in half and waxed while he was still alive. The mucus membranes exploded and ended up all over his chest. His eyes were duck taped to his eyelids where his lashes were turned off bye the Lady of Wax; she wonders off at night and hides during the day, seeking for her next victim.”

The “lady of wax”, that was the name given to the assassin of Steven Rosenberg. The case never got solved. They only found a note in Steven’s pants that said: “I love u Steven, I will never forget about the theater”, attentive, the lady of wax, in a sticker of the UPR. They say that at night the spirit of the lady of wax sneaks around the theater of the University of Puerto Rico in Rio Piedras looking for Steven. Steven had a passion for the arts, especially for acting. The lady of wax sings to the students who act in the theater. The ones, who search for her voice, suffer Stevens’s pain faster than a u can blink.
